Okonite’s successful quality management system, developed in the early 1970s, and initially dedicated to the global nuclear generating power plant industry has been enhanced to comply with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and AAR M-1003.

The proactive quality system at each facility is managed by a Quality Management Review Team/Management Representative and is responsible for maintaining Okonite’s commitments to quality and customer satisfaction.

The Okonite Company, a premium quality cable manufacturer since 1878, employee owned since 1976, provides managed services for customers in the EPR underground distribution, transmission utility, railroad/transit, industrial and medical cable markets.

In addition to ISO 9000 (Commercial Products), Okonite will continue to comply with the requirements of the 10CFR50 Appendix B, ANSI N45.2, NQA-1-1994 (Nuclear Products) and AAR M1003 (Class 1 Railroad Products) standards to service our customers needs.

COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS

To meet the quality requirements of our commercial customers, Okonite currently complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015. On December 29th, 2016, Okonite received 3rd party certification to this standard for all our manufacturing facilities, customer service centers, corporate headquarters, cable evaluation & development laboratory and our materials research laboratory.

NUCLEAR PRODUCTS “Safety & Reliability”

Since the early 1970’s, Okonite has developed a Quality Program that meets the requirements of 10CFR50 Appendix B, and the various daughter standards of ANSI N45.2. Over the years, this program and our qualified nuclear products have been maintained and improved. In preparation for the 21st century, Okonite updated its nuclear product line to be in a position to continue to supply the nuclear industry for years to come.

Currently, Okonite offers environmentally qualified (EQ) cable for medium voltage rated cables (Okoguard), low voltage power, control and instrumentation cable (Okonite FMR-N), and instrumentation cable (Okozel).   EQ reports are available by contacting the Okonite District Sales Office near them and requesting a copy.

To meet customer requirements and expectations, the Okonite Quality System has been improved to meet the requirements of NQA-1-1994.

Given Okonite’s prominence as a supplier of electrical wire and cable to the nuclear industry, the Okonite Quality System receives third party review every 30 months from NUPIC (Nuclear Procurement Issues Committee).  NUPIC is a consortium of NRC Licensee’s who combine resources to provide an effective method of evaluating and approving suppliers to the nuclear industry.  Through audits and on site inspections, NUPIC members share information about the effectiveness of a suppliers Quality System and its ability to meet nuclear requirements.

NUPIC reports are only shared with NUPIC members.  NUPIC does not issue any certificates of compliance or provide any endorsements to be used by suppliers such as Okonite.

Railroad Products "Safety & Reliability"

From its inception, Service to the Railroad Industry and the Quality of Products has been the cornerstone of The Okonite Company's existence.  It is noteworthy that the first low voltage, motor operated semaphore signal, installed in 1893 by the New Jersey Central Railroad was wired with Okonite cable.

For more than a century, The Okonite Company has serviced the railroad industry and today is the best equipped of all wire and cable manufacturers, from the standpoint of research and development, production capabilities, engineering and service, to continue to supply the unique needs of the railroad industry.
